Well, I’ve been kind of busy… After putting some shirt-designs on threadless.com (thanks for voting everyone!), I was sure I wanted to do something more with designing T-shirt prints. The idea of starting my own clothing-line has been in my head for a while now, and it’s finally getting out! I ordered all the stuff I need to do my own silkscreen printing at home… So hopefully I will soon be able to sell some of my designs (like this one above; the princess and the pea).

Shirt: Sleepers

Well, I submitted a new T-shirt design on threadless.com! I love drawing (Escherian) patterns, and this is one of them. Sixteen girls asleep together. I drew it on paper (black&white) and colored it in Photoshop. The design is pending for approval at the moment, so please come back later and vote for me! :)
Pimp my Ikea Lack

Well… New house, new livingroom, new furniture… Actually, no new furniture. This is a six year old Lack table (Ikea) and it’s been through a lot of torture before I put my pencil on it. There were some damages on the table, but we still wanted to use it because it’s BIG (about 125cm x 80 cm). But it was also very white and far too Ikea-ish, so I came with the idea to create a drawing on it. It turned out quite nice, I think.
Wordclock

Admar and I made a wordclock! Well, Admar did most of the work actually, since it was his idea to build one and I’m not exactly the kind of person that knows anything about electronics… I made the design for the clock, which was mostly about the typesetting of course. I couldn’t find a free mono-typeface that I liked enough to use, so I decided to create a typeface myself. Admar created the clock with Doug’s wordclock-kit (www.dougswordclock.com). We sent Doug a picture of our design, too bad he didn’t put it on his website, together with the other designs people made with his wordclock-kit…

Wrapping a present

I’ve been working on a children’s book for the last few weeks, and this is the first drawing I’d like to share with you. The story is about two friends: a bear and a rabbit. It’s Rabbit’s birthday, and Bear is wrapping a present for him.
Pattern

I found this drawing when I was cleaning up my desk. It’s always nice to run into old things, they make me think about the time I drew it, and they inspire me to make new things. I love making pattern drawings like these, it works kind of meditating and there’s not much thinking required.
Whale on the wall

Yes, we have a whale in our living room. It’s been there for a year now and I finally took a picture of it! I came with the idea for this wallpainting after I drew a whale in my sketchbook. I thought it was cute, but nothing more than just an ordinary childish drawing. I started making some little houses on the water droplets above his head, which made it a lot more playful.
First post.

Hi there! My name is Sofie and this is my new blog; greyspace.nl. This blog will show old and new things I’ve drawn/painted/created during the last couple of years. This blog will probably not contain a lot of text, since it’s about visual stuff and I’m not good at writing. A little bit of information about me:
I’m a 25 year old girl, living in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I studied Graphic Design at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, and I like anything that has to do with contemporary art, illustration, typography, photography, etc. I also like music (mostly (stoner)rock) and visiting concerts and festivals. Oh, and I have a cat named Zappa. He’s the most beautiful, inspiring, lovely black&white creature I’ve ever seen.
